Decorating Your Classroom in Time for Halloween

Posted: October 12, 2011 in Uncategorized

Halloween is an entertaining, holiday-themed activity for children. Thought it’s still three weeks early, I would like to share some tips and ideas you can use come Halloween. You can make it more fun by allowing children to help you decorate your classroom door and windows for Halloween. You can utilize the common Halloween images like black cats, full moon, spiders, witches, goblins and ghosts to come up with a one huge Halloween setting or huge decoration.

Peek-a-Boo Ghost at the Door

Create A Ghost Door

With a black construction paper, ask each student to decorate a ghost. Let them customize each ghost. Make a graveyard setting by using a gray construction paper to create tombstones. With a yellow construction paper, you can make a large yellow moon. If you want to, you can add a cutout of a black cat, a cutout of a ghost with the words that says ‘Happy Halloween’ or ‘Boo’.

Spider Web

Spider Web

Use your windows to create a huge cobweb complete with scary spiders. You can purchase synthetic spiders at a Halloween stores or you can find them online. When creating the spiders, ask the students to join in the activity. With Styrofoam balls, black pipe cleaners, and black paint, you can start creating your scary Halloween spiders.  Paint the Styrofoam black and use toothpicks to connect them to each other. To create a frightening spider face, you can use two red paper triangles. You can make as many spiders as you desire to make your Halloween windows scarier.

Green Witch Mask

Face of a Witch

With a green construction paper, cover the entire classroom door. Use black construction paper with gold accents to make the hat of a wicked-looking witch. You can also be resourceful in making the witch’s hat by using a black plastic trash bag. Start creating the face of the witch by drawing large yellow eyes, red mouth, and a large pointed nose. You can add a wart to the witch’s face if you want to. To make a 3D hair, use an orange crepe paper around the sides and top of the classroom door.

These are just a few ideas you can use come Halloween. The scary your decors are, the more attractive it is; be SCARYYYYYYY!!!!!
